The 43rd Annual Conference of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery (ASLMS) took place April 11-14, 2024, in Baltimore, Md. Attendees of different disciplines, backgrounds and levels of training gathered to discuss the use of lasers and energy- based devices in medicine.
“The ASLMS annual meeting is, in my opinion, the premier laser meeting of the year,” said ASLMS 2024 Program Co-Chair and dermatologist Jessica Labadie, MD (New York, N.Y.). “It is unique in that it is based around a technology rather than a specialty. The ASLMS is multidisciplinary, uniting clinicians, experts and innovators across specialties. Content is broad, covering basic science, innovative techniques and clinical breakthroughs.”
The meeting featured daily plenary sessions, a wide variety of workshops, abstract sessions, a bustling exhibit hall and other special events.
Daily plenary sessions started with a keynote speaker, acclaimed plasma physicist Mordecai “Mordy” D. Rosen, PhD. He discussed his bold, persistent journey into extreme physics, engineering and technology with his talk, “Igniting a Star with the World’s Largest Laser, a History-Making Achievement,” and the implications for a possible future of carbon-free, inherently safe, fusion energy production. Other plenary sessions included crowd favorites such as Cutting Edge, Magic Wand, Evolving/ Emerging Technology Device Demonstrations and Parade of Specialties.
Workshops featured topics on aesthetic treatments, photobiomodulation, basic science, clinical treatments, lifting and tightening, practice management, oral and dental, vascular lesions, pigment, tattoos, hair, scars and more.
A new Nursing/Allied Health session was included in conference programming this year.
Nursing and allied health professionals gathered for this half-day session to learn about topics centered on their educational needs.
Abstract sessions throughout the conference highlighted the latest in lasers and energy-based devices. These sessions featured more than 150 abstract presenters from all over the world.
The exhibit hall featured over 80 companies and brimmed with excitement as attendees explored the latest laser and energy-based technologies while connecting with exhibitors, colleagues and friends. Center stage presentations allowed attendees to hear from exhibitors and have their questions answered during “Ask the Expert” sessions.
The 9th Annual Celebration of ASLMS Women in Energy-Based Devices featured speaker Lilit Garibyan, MD, PhD. Her presentation, “From Curiosity to Excellence: A Journey from Immigrant to Innovator,” inspired attendees to challenge themselves to persevere through the odds to discover and pursue their passions.
Other special events included Tech Connect, where experts openly shared their treatment and device preferences, as well as networking receptions where attendees could meet and build relationships with peers and luminaries.
The ASLMS Annual Conference continues to be a premier international meeting in the fi eld of medical lasers and energy-based devices. Save the date for ASLMS 2025, April 24-27, in Orlando, Fla.
