Dublin — A leading cosmetic surgeon here says Ireland’s cosmetic surgery industry is in urgent need of regulation, the Independent reports.
Labros Chatzis, M.D., says laws are needed to ban marketing ploys and cut-rate, quick-fix, time-limited deals on surgical procedures. He also urges the banning of punitive cancellation policies, which pressure prospective patients to go through with procedures even if they are having second thoughts.
The newspaper reports that Dr. Chatzis and colleagues have suggested to the Irish Medical Council a legislative framework that, if implemented, would prioritize patient safety and put rogue practitioners out of business.
