London surgeon found guilty of misconduct

Article-London surgeon found guilty of misconduct

London — The U.K.’s General Medical Council has found a cosmetic surgeon guilty of misconduct for pressuring a woman to have a fat removal procedure by offering her a hefty discount, the Daily Mail of London reports.

The GMC ruled that Aamer Khan, M.D., a high-profile London cosmetic surgeon, broke strict marketing rules and failed to provide “good clinical care” after offering three women a 15 percent cash discount if they all booked a fat removal procedure at the same time. The GMC found that Dr. Khan placed increased financial pressure on one of the women in particular.

Such pressure violates the GMC’s good medical practice guidelines.

The panel also upheld five other allegations that Dr. Khan failed to provide good clinical care. Two of the allegations were that Dr. Khan had no one present to monitor the patient’s safety during the procedure and provided inadequate post-operative care.

Dr. Khan is now subject to strict conditions about the way he treats patients, imposed by the GMC for the next year.

The Daily Mail quotes Dr. Khan as saying, “I dispute the decision of the GMC about an isolated incident over two years ago and I am considering an appeal.”
