Lauderhill, Fla. — A recently released medical report concludes that doctors at a cosmetic surgery center here worked for 18 minutes but could not revive 35-year-old Lidvian Zelaya, a Miami woman whose heart stopped during a Dec. 27 liposuction procedure, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports.
The medical report, released Jan. 18 by the Zelaya family attorney, does not include the exact cause of death or clarify whether anyone was at fault. Ms. Zelaya had gone to Strax Rejuvenation and Aesthetics Institute to have fat removed from her back, abdomen and thighs and reinjected to enhance her buttocks, the Sun-Sentinel reports.
When the patient’s heart stopped beating during the procedure and efforts to revive her failed, she was rushed to a Fort Lauderdale hospital. Doctors there pronounced her dead.
At press time, an autopsy had not yet been completed.
