State-of-the-art technologies used in aesthetic medicine are constantly being improved, making yesterday's technology and innovations, well, yesterday's news. The EndyMed PRO (EndyMed Medical) is a cutting-edge radiofrequency (RF) device using EndyMed's proprietary 3DEEP technology. It sets itself apart from other RF options in the way it delivers energy to result in superior cosmetic outcomes and much safer procedures, according to physicians familiar with the product.
EndyMed's 3DEEP technology is based on sophisticated algorithms that control electrode polarity and divert RF energy through the epidermis, thereby forcing it to take a longer, deeper route focused in the dermis. The focused dermal heating causes collagen remodeling and volumetric tightening, which improves not only wrinkles but also the texture and laxity of the targeted skin, according to EndyMed Medical. These aesthetic improvements can be demonstrated in the thermal images produced by the device and witnessed in the long-term effects seen in patients.

Various lasers and intense pulsed light (IPL) technologies are used to treat wrinkles and skin laxity. However, according to Dr. Harth, the light emitted by these devices does not penetrate deep into the tissues, and therefore does not reach the target areas that can impact skin tightening. RF energy, he says, can penetrate deeper into the skin and target those tissues needed to effect skin rejuvenation.
EARLIER RF OPTIONS According to Dr. Harth, the challenge with earlier-generation RF technologies such as monopolar, unipolar and bipolar is that some work only superficially, while some deliver an uncontrolled energy flow throughout the body. This inefficient energy in first-generation RF systems requires more power to achieve long-term significant clinical effects. Moreover, the original protocols used suggested that high-energy settings be employed, making the procedures unnecessarily painful.

3DEEP is the latest generation of RF technology. It uses six independent poles/electrodes of RF energy, and the polarity of each can be individually controlled. This results in a deeper, yet more focused, treatment of the target area, Dr. Harth says.
