Recovery time in men and women is similar, but men have lower threshold for pain, surgeon says
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), most cosmetic plastic surgery procedures in men were up 2 percent in 2010, compared to 2009. While this recent rise many may seem relatively insignificant, consider this: According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), the number of cosmetic procedures in men increased more than 88 percent from 1997 to 2010.

ASPS reports that some male surgical procedures increased significantly: Facelifts in men rose 14 percent in 2010, while male liposuction increased 7 percent. That society's 2010 statistics show that men underwent more than 1.1 million cosmetic procedures, both minimally invasive and surgical.

The majority of the top 10 fastest-growing cosmetic procedures in men are surgical, which bucks the previous trend of growth in minimally invasive treatments, according to ASPS.
