London — A British cosmetic surgery group says its survey shows that a large percentage of women start considering cosmetic surgery before age 20, PRNewswire reports.
A Liberate Cosmetic Surgery survey of 3,000 British women between ages 18 and 30 revealed that 25 percent of women began considering cosmetic surgery between the ages of 10 and 15, and that 33 percent did the same between the ages of 15 and 18.
PRNewswire quotes Liberate consulting plastic surgeon Paul Banwell, M.D., as saying, “There is no doubt that more and more younger people are considering cosmetic surgery, and breast augmentation still remains the No. 1 procedure. However, the statistics regarding the age at which women are first considering surgery are quite shocking.”
The survey was conducted in February 2011 with the objective of discovering how younger women feel about their appearance and to determine their attitudes toward — and knowledge about — cosmetic surgery.
