UK surgeon warns of illegal injections

Article-UK surgeon warns of illegal injections

London — A well-known British cosmetic surgeon and TV medical correspondent is warning U.K. users of Botox (onabotulinumtoxinA, Allergan) about the risks of illegal injections, Medical News Today reports.

Dalvi Humzah, M.D., issued the plea following a U.S. case in which a Florida woman was arrested on charges of practicing without a medical license and possession with intent to sell drugs without a prescription.

Authorities allege that the woman administered Botox injections to a patient who later had to be hospitalized when the treated area became infected.

Dr. Humzah is urging the public to reduce the potential risk by verifying the physician’s credentials before undergoing treatment. He says he is treating an increasing number of patients who have had problems after inappropriate injections, Medical News Today reports.

Dr. Humzah is co-chairman of UK Botulinum Toxin Group for Aesthetics, which is dedicated to increasing awareness, training and responsible actions among those who use Botox in treatments, according to Medical News Today. The group represents dermatologists, surgeons, nurses and other medical professionals throughout the U.K.
