London — The number of cosmetic procedures in Great Britain registered a steady rise through the worst period of the global recession, the U.K.’s online Daily Mail reports.
According to recent figures from the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, the number of procedures in 2010 rose 5 percent over 2009’s total. Breast augmentations were up 10 percent and facelifts were up 12 percent. The demand for “moob jobs” — male breast-reduction surgery — increased 28 percent, making it the second-most popular procedure among males, behind rhinoplasty.
Though the number of women seeking cosmetic surgery outpaced the number of men eight to one, there was a 7 percent increase in men seeking surgery compared with a 5 percent rise among women.
Only two procedures showed sagging demand: abdominoplasty, down 7.5 percent, and otoplasty, down 17 percent.
