UK clinic settles botched facelift claim

Article-UK clinic settles botched facelift claim

London — A 65-year-old Wales woman was awarded £15,000 — about $23,000 — in an out-of-court settlement after a facelift left her with a bulgy-cheeked, chipmunk-like look, the online Daily Mail reports.

Retired office administrator Denise Maitland decided to have the facelift after watching reality TV shows such as “10 Years Younger” and “Cosmetic Surgery Live.”

She says she now has to wear heavy makeup to hide scars resulting from the botched 2005 procedure, which cost her about $8,000. The Daily Mail reports that her surgeon examined her after the procedure but did not remove her bandages and failed to notice heavy bleeding.

Ms. Maitland later underwent emergency surgery and was treated by specialists for two years afterward.

The clinic where the surgery was performed — reportedly one of the UK’s best — paid the settlement after Ms. Maitland filed a suit claiming that the doctor who performed the surgery failed to inspect her wounds before she left the hospital. The surgeon was not named.
