Pittsburgh — Cohera Medical, based here, has received CE Mark approval for its TissuGlu surgical adhesive, which allows the product to be sold in the European Union.
TissuGlu is an internal surgical adhesive for large flap surgeries such as abdominoplasties. According to a company statement, the product helps reduce fluid accumulation and the need for postsurgical drains, is resorbable and nontoxic, and forms a strong bond between tissue layers to allow natural healing to occur.
A Cohera news release said the company also is pursuing Food and Drug Administration approval for TissuGlu, which will be commercially available in Germany in the third quarter of 2011.
