There’s no shortage of high-tech devices to reduce fat, tighten skin and diminish cellulite. And in that sea of options, there are a few that stand out, according to W. Grant Stevens, M.D., clinical professor of plastic surgery, University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine, Los Angeles.
Dr. Stevens offered colleagues these three tips yesterday during his presentation, “Device Wars: Fat reduction/skin tightening/cellulite,” at the annual meeting of American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) in Las Vegas:
“I have used 11 different nonsurgical fat reduction technologies and, by far, the best in class remains Zeltiq’s CoolSculpting. Over 3,000,000 treatments have been done since 2010. It is safe and effective, and it makes financial sense for the patient and the doctor,” he says.
Ulthera (Ultherapy) is the only nonsurgical skin tightening and lifting technology with the FDA indication for lifting, according to Dr. Stevens.
“I have tried all of the available technologies, and Ulthera is the best by far!” he says. “With Ulthera, you can visualize where the energy is being delivered, can deliver the energy with surgical precision to 1.5, 3.0 and 4.5 mm in depth, and you can heat the tissues to 65 degrees consistently. This precision results in lifting and tightening with increased collagen and elastin in the skin.”
Finally, there’s a long-term cure for dimpled cellulite.
“Cellfina from Merz has a two-year FDA indication for treatment of cellulite and has four-year results,” Dr. Stevens says. “I have tried them all and Cellfina is clearly the best and the only technology with long-term proven results with dimpled cellulite.”
Disclosure: Dr. Stevens owns these technologies but has no other conflicts.
