Cutera announced July 16, 2018, that it launched truSculpt iD, a body sculpting device that offers a hands-free option and can treat the whole abdomen in 15 minutes.
“The treatment is significantly faster than several existing technologies. The applicators are easy to place on almost any body area allowing the physician to customize the treatment to a patient's desired results,” Anne Chapas, M.D., a Manhattan-based dermatologist writes in an email to The Aesthetic Channel.
Providers can use the monopolar radiofrequency technology to treat various fat densities and all skin types, according to a Cutera press release.
“Although it uses heat to reduce fat cells, the treatment is much more comfortable than other technologies since the heat is delivered in strategic small doses. Patients report that it feels like a hot stone massage and find it very relaxing," Dr. Chapas writes.
Studies suggest truSculpt iD treatment results in an average 24% fat reduction. Clinical histology results show the device causes inflammation and fat necrosis to a depth of 1.5 cm. And patients generally see improvement six to 12 weeks after the initial treatment, according to company information.
However, like other noninvasive technologies, truSculpt iD is not a weight loss device, according to Dr. Chapas.
“The best candidates are close to their ideal weight with small areas of subcutaneous fat," she says
