The drive for minimally invasive, yet effective skin rejuvenation procedures has encouraged physicians to utilize combination treatments to achieve desired outcomes. With the ability to provide multiple procedures safely and effectively in one appointment, physicians can realize an increase in profitability with minimal additional staff resources, while patients reap the benefits.
The Vivace® radiofrequency (RF) microneedling device by Aesthetics Biomedical®, or ABM (Phoenix, Ariz.), takes advantage of combination strategies to maximize the benefits of collagen induction therapy with the skin tightening effects of RF energy in one treatment. Using the Vivace Experience® to improve skin tone and texture with immediate results allows the physician to combine it with other treatments, expanding Vivace’s use and subsequently increasing their revenue.

Emil A. Tanghetti, MD, a renowned dermatologist at the Center for Dermatology and Laser Surgery in Sacramento, Calif., finds that patients with multiple problems that cannot be addressed using a single device benefit from the application of a combination approach without significantly changing the recovery profile. As he shared with us, “By combining treatments, we are able to treat a broader array of conditions and enhance our results. We have seen results after three to four combination treatments that are comparable to one to two treatments of aggressive fractional CO2 without the downtime and discomfort. Our patients appreciate the multiple session approach when compared to more aggressive treatments.”
To further improve the post-treatment experience and results, ABM announced a partnership between Vivace with the innovative skincare technology brand, SkinCeuticals. Ashley Magovern, MD, founder of Manhattan Dermatology in Manhattan Beach, Calif., shared the benefits of the C E Ferulic serum. “When added post Vivace microneedling, this serum can absolutely enhance results,” she stated. “Topical vitamin C boosts collagen production and protects the skin from sun, pollution and free radical damage. Adding vitamin E and Ferulic acid increases its efficacy even more.”
Dr. Magovern shared that building a skincare regimen for patients within the practice is a benefit for both the patient and the physician.
She explained, “Skincare regimens allow patients to see a greater benefit from the procedures that we do in office. Using a dedicated consultant to review their skincare routine, more time can be spent with patients to learn about their skincare needs. A few extra minutes can lead to a long-term plan that may include lasers, lights and injectables.”
Jennifer Stieber, founder of SLK Clinic in Nashville, Tenn., has been successfully using SkinCeuticals in combination with Vivace. As she shared with us, “I recommend patients begin daily use of SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic following their Vivace RF treatment because this increases the resulting collagen production by several fold.”
Recently, ABM announced their endowment of National Microneedling Day to honor the Vivace Experience, the leading RF microneedling treatment in the country. “National Microneedling Day is an opportunity to enhance awareness of the power of RF microneedling,” Mrs. Stieber explained. “The Vivace device was built with such a wide array of settings that it can be tailored to benefit a wide population of patients ranging from the young adult with acne, to the older adult with more rhytides and laxity.”
The Vivace is a versatile device that can be combined with many different energy-based treatments within an aesthetic practice. Physicians can teach patients about the benefits of skincare at home, while providing the exciting benefits that combination treatments have to offer in-office. As Dr. Tanghetti noted, “Our patients’ satisfaction speaks to the success of this approach.”
